Artist Statement:
I remember "Just give it a shot" was what my Dad said to me when we were sitting in the living room, debating on taking my first photography class for sophomore year of High School. So without him, not only would this body of work, but my whole career would not happen. So I wanted to dedicate a body of work to him not only to show his story but my own. I show both my father’s and my story of our life that has been lived so far and our healing process and what is left over from the beginning and differences and similarities between each other, and different places or things that have been passed on from my father to myself.
Within this body of work I seek to explore topics of PTSD, Father and Son relationships, Remembering the past, Landmarks, Childhood memories, Childhood trauma, Healing, The idea that music is therapy. All of those topics both me and my father can relate to in many different ways. I explore these topics in many ways from family artifacts and personal items to something simple as basic portraits and letting the wrinkles and texture of my fathers skin tell the story of many years spent living life.
As a whole body of work I feel that it speaks to many different people in many different ways, for people who remember doing similar things with their fathers, people who struggle with similar mental health issues or even if they just enjoy it they just enjoy the collection visually. And of course, Thank you Dad.
